Overview
Treeless Kuda Flex Trail Saddle- This saddle does not have a hard wooden tree. It does have bars, however, made of leather and foam. They raise the rider up away from the horses spine so that a nice air channel is formed down the horses back. No spinal pressure and less bridging. The saddle bars bend and form to the horses back. This also ensures that the horse does not feel jabs in the loins or withers upon turning. You are sitting close to your horse and can feel all the movements he makes under you. Your communication is multiplied many times. The Saddle body is the same whether the Flex Trail Model or Endurance. The stirrup leathers are the only difference.
The rigid pommel is made of steel and has a great handle that arches up over the pommel or now comes with a western pommel. It comes in four pommel widths to fit virtually all horses withers; from Pony to Paso Fino, to Andelusian, to Arabian. The bars mold to the horses back, but the pommel must be the correct width to sit properly on either side of the withers. To find out the width of your horses withers, do a measurement. See instuctions here. If your horses withers are 6" or less a narrow saddle will fit. If 6" to 6.5" a medium, 6.5 to 7" wide, and 7"or more an extra wide. Saddle pad thickness can help adjust saddle fit also.
The Cantle is made of a rigid foam material. It is rigid to support you, yet flexible for your horses comfort.
The skirt length of a 15" Flex Trail saddle is 21". Add an inch to the overall length of the saddle for every inch added in the seat size.
The Leather-Flex Trail has a deep pocket in the seat, making it very secure. It rises up toward the pommel. Some men find this a little uncomfortable and women too if the saddle is too small. See saddle sizing chart. Men are more drawn to the Premier. A rule of thumb for sizing is: If you like a snug 15" Western or 17" English, you would like a 16" Flex Trail. If you like a little more room, order 1/2" more.
The rigging is a Center Fire Rigging. The latigo starts in the back, goes down through the cinch ring, up through the front ring of the saddle, back down through the cinch ring, and then ties off in the back. This lets the cinch ring float and self adjust so the pressure is equal from front to back on the saddle. This keeps the saddle from flipping up in back while going down hill. With the use of a crupper and breast collar, the saddle does not have to be super tight.
The Stirrups of the Leather Flex Saddles are made of fiberglass and are covered with Leather. They weight about 2 pounds. They are made with the twist built in. No more knee pressure.
A Skito Pad is recommended with this saddle. See several different pads under this saddle. We now have a beautiful Flex Trail Skito Pad made just for this style of Saddle. The thickness of the skito foams you order will depend on the pommel width and wither measurment of your horse. For instance: I can use a narrow Kuda saddle (6" pommel) on my horse who has 7" inch wither tracing, but the pad must be very thin. Sometimes I even use a Skito without the foams. My horse who has a 4" wither tracing needs a 1" foam in the Skito pad and a narrow gullet on the saddle.
